Plant Operator Jobs 4-on / 4-off Shift Pattern Canada

Position Scope

As a Plant Operator, you will perform daily tasks to gather data in support of technology development. The primary focus is to conduct plant test campaigns, operate plant equipment, and track plant activities in support of process development and future plant design.

This position requires a 12-hour shifts following a 4-on / 4-off shift pattern (which includes night and day rotation).

This role is based in Squamish, BC.

Health Safety and Environment 

  • Champion a positive safety culture within the Operations team. 
  • Be familiar with, and ensure adherence to core HSE policies including, but not limited to:
    • Permit to work;
    • Lockout tagout;
    • Contractor work;
    • Line break;
    • Hot work;
    • Confined space entry;
    • Working at height;
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Maintain the plant in a safe condition in line with all applicable regulations.
  • Identify, report and resolve unsafe conditions, processes or actions within the workplace.
  • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
  • Be familiar with the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and associated responsibilities within the plan.
  • Ensure that periodic safety inspections, daily rounds and other safety related requirements are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Complete training curriculum. 

Responsibilities

  • Operate plant equipment and  control panels as required.
  • Complete and authorize daily work permits as required.
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and permits for plant operations.
  • Identify, capture and communicate lessons learned and implement solutions where appropriate.
  • Execute, assess and sign-off on proper LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) procedures.
  • Participate in test campaigns and production campaigns in line with the Operation Team schedule.
  • Complete modification/upgrade work packages and other tasks as detailed.
  • Maintain a well-organized site and exceptional housekeeping standards.
  • Request, coordinate and support maintenance requirements with the Maintenance Team.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors working on site.
  • Perform lab sampling and analysis to monitor and control plant performance.
  • Adjust process parameters to achieve targeted results outlined in test plans.
  • Execute troubleshooting analysis of plant equipment.
  • Perform safety checks and audits.
  • Monitor parameters using HMI and routine plant walk throughs.
  • Monitor, adjust, and complete modifications on equipment.
  • Provide input for or completing daily reports.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for plant operations as required.
  • Label and tag plant equipment.
  • Fulfill Operations Team responsibilities as detailed in the Operations Group Structure and Responsibilities document.
  • Foster and maintain a positive culture within the Operations Team; promote effective teamwork effort, a questioning mindset and recognize failure as a learning opportunity.
  • Identify, capture and communicate lessons learned and implement solutions where appropriate.
  • Provide support, guidance, training and coaching for new Plant Operators.
  • Identify constraints to achieving plant objectives.
  • Identify and apply appropriate quality control tools and techniques.
  • Conduct daily workplace inspection and daily rounds of the plant.
  • Request and support maintenance requirements with the Maintenance Department.
  • Operate mobile equipment such as forklift and boom lift.
  • Complete training requirements to learn about CE processes/procedures, and gain a critical understanding of plant systems, process fundamentals, and plant operations.

Education and Experience

  • Experience: 4-8 years of plant operations experience in pulp and paper, water treatment, oil and gas or similar industrial environment.
  • Education: Chemical Technology Diploma, Engineering Technology Diploma, Power Engineering certification or similar is considered an asset.
